England women made a bold statement by defeating West Indies in their T20 World Cup opener on Saturday.

Chasing 136 on a two-paced wicket, England women channeled their own Bazball approach and achieved the target inside 15 overs. Despite losing Danielle Wyatt early in the innings, took the attack to the opposition and Nat Sciver and Heather Knight gave the finishing touches as England started their campaign on a high.

Sciver was adjudged the Player of the Match for her unbeaten 40, and she was upbeat about England's rather easy win against West Indies women.

"On this two-pace tough pitch, it was a little difficult. Had to see the team home. We need to push the squad over the line by continuing to move aggressively in the direction of danger. It is necessary to keep the team moving forward."

Sciver took a break from cricket after the 50-over World Cup last year, but her return to the England squad has bolstered their chances in the T20 World Cup.

Apart from Sciver, skipper Knight also contributed with a well compiled 32 as the target was chased down rather easily.

Next up, England face Ireland Women on February 13.
