Former Scotland skipper Kyle Coetzer has announced his retirement from international cricket after playing the game for 15 years. Coetzer, who led Scotland to a famous win over England in 2018, and guided his side into the Super 12 stage of the 2021 T20 World Cup, bid adieu to T20Is last year and left the One-Day International captaincy last May.

Coetzer, 38, will be seen in a new role as an assistant coach in the upcoming Heyhoe-Flint Trophy for Northern Diamonds. Overall, the swashbuckling opener has amassed 3,182 runs in 89 ODIs and 1,495 in 70 T20I appearances for Scotland, respectively.

Speaking about his retirement, the Aberdeen-born stated that the time was right for him to move on to a new phase in his career.

Here's what Coetzer said

"I don't ever think there's a perfect time for a decision like this, but I've been considering my options for some time, and an opportunity came up which was too good to turn down,

"The balance that the Scotland team need at this time was outweighed by the opportunity for me to move into coaching, and I'm extremely excited about the chance to work with such a high-profile team."

Coetzer led Scotland in 86 matches, winning 46 and losing 40. The batter was also named ICC Men's Associate Cricketer of the Decade.
