With several T20 leagues cropping up, cricket boards have found it challenging to keep a hold of their players. England's T20 specialist Alex Hales is hopeful about participating in the upcoming Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023.

As per speculation, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will deny their centrally contracted players a No-Objection Certificate (NOCs) to play in the US-based T20 League in July.

A report in ESPN Cricinfo suggests that Hales is in talks with an MLC franchise for a stint. However, the clubs are worried about the availability of England players in the competition.

Hales stands an excellent chance to feature in the league as the opener has a white-ball-only County contract, which the ECB might overlook.

A non-ECB contracted white-ball England player needs approval from their County before making himself available for a league, with the board giving just a formal go-ahead.

A similar NOC is provided to the English players for the Indian Premier League, which the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) believes should also be applied to MLC.

The MLC is scheduled to take place between July 13-30, with six teams taking part. The tournament clashes with the County Championship and the T20 Blast Finals Day.

Hales Nottinghamshire's contract ends following the completion of the T20 Blast 2023. Other England players who could join MLC are Richard Gleeson, Tymal Mills, and Will Smeed.
