Abhimanyu Easwaran, the Bengal batter slammed a stunning century against the Mumbai Team in the ongoing Irani Cup match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Playing for the Rest of India, the elegant right-handed batter was at his fluent best as he notched up a sensational ton.

Things have never been easy for the talented batter. He has faced a ton of difficulties in his cricketing career, and dreams of representing the Indian cricket at the highest level. Despite piling on truckloads of runs, he is yet to receive a national call-up, something which he strives to attain. Easwaran has 7315 runs in 97 first-class matches, including 26 centuries.

In an exclusive interview with OneCricket, last year, Easwaran talked about his dream to play for India and how despite all the obstacles, he continues to work hard in the domestic circuit.

"Being part of the Indian cricket team has always been a dream. I continue to work towards that goal. I understand the selection decisions are based on a lot of factors and team management's vision, which is, again, something which is not in my control.

I won't really break my determination to keep improving, perform consistently. And just grab that opportunity whenever that arises. I just want to work hard and be ready for the day I get that opportunity and make the most of it. The passion is still there. I think the team also now wants to make a big difference. I will not give up so easily. I will never give up, for sure."

In the interview, Easwaran also talked about the influence of Virat Kohli on his life. He mentioned that during the tour of Bangladesh in 2022, where Easwaran was a stand-by opener, Kohli talked to him about his fitness regimes, and how he divides his time between gym and actual cricket practice.

"I've obviously had conversations with him (Virat) about cricket on the last tour. On the Bangladesh tour. And it was great. I think he gave me a lot of insights about his game or preparation. I had a few questions I wanted to know. And obviously, fitness. I've seen him train in the gym. And I could just see what it meant to him. He gave equal importance to the batting session and to the gym session. So I could see how important it was to him."

Easwaran stood like a brick wall in the ongoing Irani Cup match, and he'll hope to perform consistently at the highest-level, so that the selectors keep an eye on him for future tours.

India need a rock-solid opener, once Rohit Sharma retires, and the Bengal batter is a great choice for the post.
