Dinesh Karthik Joins MS Dhoni, De Kock in Rare T20 Record

RCB veteran Dinesh Karthik snared an easy catch off Akash Deep as the duo formed forces to remove Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma for one. Notably, the catch marked a significant milestone in Karthik’s career as the 37-year-old has now joined a league of wicketkeeping legends in T20 cricket.
Dinesh Karthik achieves huge T20 milestone
Karthik resumed his wicketkeeping role for the RCB in their IPL 2023 opener against Mumbai Indians, after having kept wickets for the franchise throughout the previous season. The cricketer claimed a catch in the third over of the innings to send Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma cheaply back to the pavilion.
Significantly, Karthik’s catch was his 200th as wicketkeeper in T20 cricket, thus making him only the third keeper in history to reach the milestone.
Only Quinton de Kock and Indian veteran MS Dhoni have more catches to their name, with 207 and 203 grabs respectively. Meanwhile, Karthik has claimed 200 catches so far, and is set to add more to his tally in the ongoing IPL 2023 season.
In terms of overall dismissals in T20s, the senior glovesman once again appears third on the all-time list. Dhoni, with 287 dismissals, sits at the top while Pakistan-based stumper Kamran Akmal is second with 274 dismissals.
Karthik is third on the list with 266 and is 12 dismissals ahead of de Kock’s 254.
