So, that concludes our live blog coverage for this encounter. We hope you enjoyed the discussion and analysis. Stay tuned for our upcoming blogs! Thank you.

Kohli smashes a six and finishes the game in style! What a dominating performance from RCB in their backyard. They have absolutely bossed Mumbai Indians here. The red army have got a great start to their IPL 2023 campaign.

Glenn Maxwell, the Big Show, enters the middle. And he starts off with two humongous sixes. So, I reckon, that should be it.

A rash shot from Dinesh Karthik and he has to walk back to the pavilion. RCB lose theie second wicket, do we have a twist in the tale?

Finally, a wicket for MI. Faf du Plessis miscues a lofted shot and Tim David catches the ball at long-on. So, at least, MI are not losing by 10 wickets.

Hrithik Shokeen has dropped Kohli, but does it matter? Don't think so.

It has been a batting masterclass from Virat Kohli. Continues his onslaught on MI and smacks a huge six off Archer.

Just 54 needed in 46 deliveries, it will be a cakewalk for RCB. MI must be kicking themselves as they have allowed RCB to dominate them without giving a fight. And the impact player, Jason Behrendorff, has been absolutely ordinary.

Fifty comes up for Virat Kohli! A wonderful knock from a wonderful player and it's safe to say that the chase-master has been at his absolute best.

A direct hit at the non-striker's end! Aaand Faf is in. A sigh of relief for RCB fans.

At the halfway mark, RCB are well on course for a thumping win, placed at 97 for no loss.

50 for Faf du Plessis and what a scintillating knock it has been! The Proteas legend has smacked Shokeen for two successive sixes.

Meanwhile, Hrithik Shokeen comes into the attack and a great save from Tilak Varma in the deep saves two runs for MI.

Arijit: I think it could've been Kumar Kartikeya had he played 👀

Debashish: Absolutely nothing has gone in MI's favour, as RCB have raced to 80 in just 9 overs. Who do you think could strike for MI?

Sixxxx to end the over and Green goes for 17 in his first over. The promising Australian all-rounder has had a forgettable outing so far.

Well, Cameron Green comes into the attack and Du Plessis greets him with a glorious boundary. The RCB skipper seems to be in his zone tonight.

Debashish: I think as they have got a brisk start, RCB should focus on rotating the strike and play sensibly. And both Kohli and Faf, having plethora of experience, are quite capable of doing that.

Arijit: What should be the approach of RCB?

End of the powerplay and RCB are off to a flier, well-placed at 53 for no loss.

Ok, so as the snicko suggests, Ishan Kishan dropped Du Plessis off Piyush Chawla. It was a tough chance, but a wicket here could've rightly brought MI back into the game.

And Kohli has arrived in Chinnaswamy! A slower ball on full length, King Kohli steps down and smashes it for a maximum. His first six of the day.

Ohh, Archer has dropped Virat Kohli in his very first delivery. Will this prove costly for MI?

Faf Du Plessis seems to be in a hurry. The RCB skipper has hammered MI's impact player Jason Behrendorff for 16 runs, including two sixes, in the third over. RCB have got the start they wanted.

Here comes Virat's first boundary this season. It wasn't the most beautiful strokes but he won't mind.
A sweet stat for Kohli's fans - He has got one up over Rohit Sharma in terms of fours this season.

Arshad Khan will bowl from the other end. MI is trying to play against RCB's struggles against shortcomings against left-arm seam bowling.

Here we go in the chase, the great man Mr. Virat Kohli is away with a single. Faf du Plessis and VK are opening. Meanwhile, Jason Behrendorff has come in as Impact Player in place of Suryakumar Yadav.

Varma finishes off in style, gives tribute to the legendary MS Dhoni with a helicopter shot in the final delivery (after all, India won the ODI World Cup on this day 12 years ago). MI finish with an impressive 171 for 7, courtesy of a Tilak Varma masterclass.

It's free-hit time aaand Arshad heaves it for only a single.

Oh Harshal Patel what have you done? A waist-high no-ball in the final over, something which RCB must rue at the moment.

Arijit: MI took a gamble by promoting Arshad ahead of Jofra, but the youngster just proved his mettle with the bat.

150 comes up for MI with a brace! Thanks to Tilak Varma, they have something to defend now. Oh my my, Arshad Khan hammers a massive six off Harshal Patel.

Meanwhile, Siraj seems under-confident as he has bowled four consecutive wides in the penultimate over. He is certainly adding some really crucial runs to MI's tally.

Right, so ten balls to go, MI are 134 for 7. All eyes are on Tilak Varma, can he help Mumbai go past the 160-run mark?

A 'faf'ulous catch puts an end to Hrithik Shokeen's brief innings. The MI youngster plays a lofted drive and skipper Du Plessis dives brilliantly to execute a magnificent catch. MI are 7 down, with Tilak Varma fighting at one end.

Tilak Varma completes his fifty with a hugeeeee six over midwicket! A fantastic knock from the young man. It seems as if he is batting on a different surface.

Debashish: Thank you! Yes, David's struggle vs leg-spin is a prolonged one. He had to negotiate this over, but unfortunately for MI he lost his patience and threw his wicket away.

Arijit: Hats off, Debashish! Karn Sharma knocks over David with a beautiful delivery.

Debashish: The battle between Karn and David will be fascinating.

Oh, did I jinx him? Wadhera attempts for a third consecutive glory shot and loses his wicket in this process. A wicket against the run of play for MI and Sharma has accomplished his revenge.

Nehal Wadhera, you are going to be a superstar! The youngster has dispatched Karn Sharma out of Chinnaswamy for two consecutive times.

Debashish: Yes, how MI will finish pretty much depends on this stand. Varma and Wadhera have done a good job so far.

Arijit: To be honest, I am not sure. I think Tilak Varma is the key here to take MI to a healthy total. He smashes Maxwell for a huge six and a four as we speak. Signs of aggression from the swashbuckling southpaw.

Debashish: How much more MI can add to their total, Arijit?

Halfway done, MI are 55 for 4.

RCB take a review for LBW. Ohhh, the impact is marginally outside the leg stump. Wadhera survives and RCB lose a review.

The debutant Nehal Wadhera comes and opens his account with a boundary.

Bracewell strikes and it's a huge one! Suryakumar Yadav goes back to the pavilion. There was slight room outside the off stump and SKY hits it straight to the backward point. The Kiwi all-rounder makes his impact straightaway!

8.2- Sharp turn for Bracewell there. 👀 MI spinners must be licking their lips upon seeing this.

While we wish Topley a speedy recovery, RCB have brought their latest recruit, Michael Bracewell, into the attack.

RCB's trump card Reece Topley looks to be in serious pain. He has probably dislocated his right shoulder and is going off the field. The visuals are not great if you are an RCB fan. Personally, I don't think he will bowl another over in this game. Suyash Prabhudessai has entered the field.

First signs of spin, Karn Sharma comes into the attack.

End of the power play, Mumbai Indians are 29 for 3.

Tilak Varma hits the first six for Mumbai Indians! A short full of confidence from the young man. Can he bail his team out of deep waters? Only time will tell.

Not this time Rohit, not this time. Akash Deep induces an edge and Karthik doesn't make any mistake this time. The MI captain has to join Kishan and Green in the dug out. MI are in deep trouble, reeling at 20 for three in 5.2 overs.

Blunder, a huge blunder from RCB! They have just done a harakiri and dropped Rohit Sharma! Sharma miscues a pull and keeper Dinesh Karthik was all set to grab an easy catch. But Siraj had other ideas, as he collided with Karthik, giving Rohit a lifeline.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma seems desperate to break the shackles.

Arijit: Absolutely, and the attack will be further strengthened when Josh Hazlewood joins the team.

Debashish: In Siraj and Topley, RCB have formed a lethal new ball pair. That is paying them rich dividends.

Here comes MI's backbone. Ladies and Gentleman, please put your hands together for India's Mr 360, Suryakumar Yadav.

Reece Topley, you beauty!! The tall Englishman stuns MI by cleaning up the dangerous Green. And Bangalore's passionate crowd goes absolutely berserk. MI are two down!

Surprise, Surprise! No SKY at number three this time, in comes MI's most expensive player, Cameron Green!

And MI lose their first wicket. Mohammed Siraj strikes for RCB! This is Siraj's 50th wicket for RCB in the IPL. Short of a length delivery, Ishan miscues it and Harshal Patel takes a good catch at deep third man.

Rohit Sharmaaa, What are you doing?? There was not a run there. Lucky escape for the MI captain at the non-striker's end.

First boundary of the game! Full, outside off from Reece Topley and Ishan Kishan drives it beautifully for four.

Brilliant start from Mohammed Siraj, conceded only two runs in the first over.

Debashish: I think it will depend on the game situation. If MI post a massive total, RCB might consider using a batter, preferably one between Lomror and Prabhudessai, as their impact player. On the other hand, I strongly believe MI will go with Jason Behrendorff as their impact player for the game.

Arijit: Who could be the impact player for RCB & MI according to you, Debashish?

Debashish: Reece Topley could play a key role for RCB with the new ball. Let me tell you, the tall English seamer has dismissed Rohit Sharma three times in international cricket. So, the MI skipper should be a bit watchful in the initial overs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Playing XI: Faf du Plessis (C), Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Michael Bracewell, Shahbaz Ahmed, Dinesh Karthik (WK), Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley, Karn Sharma, Akash Deep

Impact Players: Anuj Rawat, Mahipal Lomror, Suyash Prabhudessai, David Willey, Sonu Yadav

Mumbai Indians Playing XI: Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Verma, Tim David, Nehal Wadhera, Hrithik Shokeen, Jofra Archer, Piyush Chawla, Arshad Khan

Impact Players: Jason Behrendorff, Shams Mulani, Sandeep Warrier, Ramandeep Singh, Vishnu Vinod

Toss update: Royal Challengers Bangalore have won the toss and they will bowl first.

Arijit: Yeah, definitely, I second that. And I believe the team chasing will go with an extra batter as the impact player.

Debashis: Well, it's time for the all-important toss guys. As the match is in M Chinnaswamy, I feel the toss-winner will bowl first. What do you reckon, Arijit?

The bond between Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers is incredible.

MI Prepares

RCB prepares for the big contest

Both the teams have faced each other 32 times, with Mumbai Indians having the upper hand. They have won 19 matches as compared to 13 victories for RCB.

This is Debashis Sarangi and I'll be taking you through this interesting battle between two champion teams.

The wait is over and the Royal Challengers Bangalore are set to begin their IPL 2023 campaign against the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Ee Sala Cup Namade - but will this be the year when RCB finally conquers the unthinkable?
