Australian wicket-keeper batter Josh Inglis was recently ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 after picking a freak injury while playing golf.

Cricket Australia have announced that Inglis will be replaced by all-rounder Cameron Green

Meanwhile, the decision has raised eyebrows because Australia have chosen to proceed without a back-up wicketkeeper. Should Matthew Wade get injured during the course of the tournament, the Aussies have no natural keeper in the reserves to replace him.

Speaking on the matter, captain Aaron Finch revealed that Australia have consciously chosen to take the risk.

Former Australian World Cup winner Adam Gilchrist has also backed the decision to draft Cameron Green as the replacement.

Green has been in electric form in recent months and he could be a key player for the Aussies in the World Cup. The all-rounder is a bonafide match-winner and he could be a vital cog in Australia's well-oiled machine over the course of the next month.

As for Wade, the Aussies must ensure that they wrap him up in cotton wool for the entirety of the World Cup.

"We're taking the risk and not going with the extra keeper, which obviously has a degree of risk to it. We feel as though Cam gives us a little bit better balance to the squad. That's definitely a risk, there's no doubt about that."

Reflecting on the injury to Inglis, Finch said (as quoted by NDTV):

"That was a freak accident. I was playing in Josh's group and I feel so bad for him.

"We didn't realise the club broke, we just thought he hit it poorly, and he looked down and there's blood everywhere. It was pretty distressing there for a little bit."
