Dawid Malan credited his experience of playing in Dhaka Premier League and the ability to adapt under different conditions for his success in the first ODI against Bangladesh on Wednesday.

England defeated Bangladesh by 3 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. Chasing a tricky 210 on a slowish surface, England faltered in the chase, losing wickets at regular intervals.

However, Malan showed his batting prowess and the experience of playing in slow conditions by anchoring the innings to steer England past the winning line. He scored 114 off 145 deliveries laced with eight boundaries and four sixes.

At one stage, England were tottering at 161 for 7, with Malan being the only recognised batter remaining. But he kept his cool and made sure he stayed till the end to help his side win the contest.

After the match, the southpaw stated that the conditions were tough to bat, but the experience of playing in Bangladesh helped him in the chase.

"The more you can play in different conditions, the more your game grows. Whether you are successful in the past or not, it is just great to learn in different conditions. I have had some experience here. It is not the easiest wicket to start on. It is to trust the method to get through the tough times and cash in towards the end," Malan said after the game.

He further added: "Here, the wickets are skiddy during the day. It gets better as the game goes on and gets slower in the evening. I had to learn to play spin in a different way than I played in England. It helped my game progress massively before the franchise stuff happened. It was a massive help."

The second ODI between the two teams takes place on March 3. Bangladesh need to win the contest to stay alive in the series.
