IND vs AUS, 2nd Session Report: Kuhnemann's Maiden 5-Wicket Haul Strengthens Australia's Grip In Indore

Don't be surprised if this Test match gets over by tomorrow afternoon. If India really asked the curator to produce a rank turner, then it certainly back-fired on them. Australian spinners had their plans ready and they executed it to perfection as India tumbled for a paltry 109 inside 1.5 sessions.

Resuming the post-lunch session at 84 for 7, the lower middle order had a tough task on their hands as the side were in danger of getting dismissed for below hundred.

Matthew Kuhnemann continued his fine work from the opening session and got the first breakthrough post lunch, when Ashwin nicked a length delivery to Alex Carey, who took a sharp catch behind the stumps.

With 8 wickets down, and India on the back-foot, Umesh Yadav decided to entertain the crowd, and smacked two sixes to steer India past the 100-run mark. However, his stay came to a close when Kuhnemann trapped him in front of the stumps. The ball pitched just inside the line of leg stump and kept very low.

A bit of comedy of errors took place when Mohammed Siraj was the last man dismissed. Axar tucked a length ball down the leg side and wanted a couple of runs, but Siraj was not interested. Eventually he listened to his senior partner but fell short of the ground as the throw was accurate towards the bowler who dislodged the bails quickly.

Australian innings

Australia started on a positive note, but that was short-lived as Travis Head departed for just 9. Jadeja's length ball kept low as Head missed his attempted flick. The original decision was not out, but India took a successful review to overturn the decision.

Jadeja thought he had Marnus Labuschagne knocked over, but the left-arm spinner overstepped and the number one batter was given a lifeline.

The two batters played with caution and were not afraid to put away the bad deliveries. Labuschagne was given yet another lifeline when Ashwin copped a blow on his front leg, but Rohit decided against the review. The replays clearly showed the ball was clipping the middle and leg.

At the tea break, Australia are 71 for 1. They have things under control and will look to continue the good work in the last session as well.

Talking Points

  • Jadeja overstepped: Marnus Labuschagne just came to the crease when he was knocked over by Jadeja. A jubilant Jaddu celebrated, but it was called a no-ball. If Marnus goes onto score a big one, Jadeja will rue the missed opportunity.
  • Khawaja looks astute: His application looked better and the southpaw controlled the scheme of things after the fall of Travis Head.
