Chattogram Challengers bagged the services of Unmukt Chand in the Bangladesh Premier League 2023 draft on Wednesday (November 23).

Chand, who registered for the draft earlier this month, is set to become the first Indian to play in Bangladesh's franchise-based championship.

As the 29-year-old retired from Indian cricket in August 2021 and is now not bound under the BCCI exclusivity policy. He made himself eligible to participate in the tournaments based out of India.

Speaking on Chand's recruitment, Chattogram Challengers owner said:

"We have picked him as we wanted to have an Indian in our squad plus we can also have a fan base in India."

He has already played in the last season of the Big Bash League, becoming the first male Indian cricketer to feature in the competition.

He made only two appearances for Melbourne Renegades, scoring 35 runs with the bat.

Chand was once touted as the next poster boy of Indian cricket, having won the 2012 Under-19 World Cup as a captain. He was a part of Delhi Daredevils, now Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
