Sri Lanka cricketer Chamika Karunaratne has been axed from the team's yet-to-be-announced squad for the upcoming ODI series versus Afghanistan scheduled to begin on November 25.

Informing about the development, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) secretary Mohan de Silva stated that the 26-year-old has been dropped due to his recent poor returns and not on disciplinary grounds.

Notably, SLC formed a three-member team that will lead a probe into various matters which happened during Dasun Shanaka and Co.'s recent visit to Australia.

In one of the alleged incidents circling around the Islanders during their latest T20 World campaign, Chamika was reported to be involved in a fistfight.

"The selectors have dropped Chamika [Karunaratne] due to non-performance not due to disciplinary issues. The necessary actions will be taken after the three-member committee submits their report."

The all-rounder had a below average 2022 T20 World Cup, scoring only 32 runs and taking three wickets. However, he earned the player of the match award twice in Sri Lanka's last ODI series that took place against Australia in June.
