Australian cricket received promising news about injured pacer Josh Hazlewood ahead of the third and final Test in Sydney.

Hazlewood, who missed the opening two-Test against South Africa owing to a side-strain, has declared himself fit for the encounter.

Australia's bowling unit will most likely be without star fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who suffered a finger injury in the ongoing Boxing Day Test. All-rounder Cameron Green is already ruled out due to a fractured finger.

However, speaking to SEN, Hazlewood confirmed his fitness and availability.

Here's what Hazlewood stated

"A few more overs to bowl during this game out in the nets but I had a good hit-out two days ago. All the signs are good so I feel ready and fit,

"If I could bank on less than 30 overs (at the MCG) I would have been sweet, but if it goes deep, 40 overs might have been a stretch. So I made the call before the game."

Australia could replace Green with his West Australian teammate Aaron Hardie, or hand debut to fast bowler Lance Morris, who joined the side as a cover for Starc.

Regarding the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, the hosts are on the cusp of another clinical victory, as South Africa are down on the mat, being placed at 174 for 7 as of writing.
