Indians dominate in ICC’s top 2022 emerging candidates

Arshdeep Singh made his international debut through a T20I in July 2022 at Southampton. In his maiden appearance itself, the speedster claimed two wickets and starred in India’s 50-run win over hosts England.

Singh’s performance prolonged his stay with the ‘Men in Blue’, and he eventually toured UAE and Australia for the subsequent Asia Cup and T20 World Cup respectively. In the latter of the two tournaments, the left-arm pacer collected 10 wickets and finished his first year with 33 T20I wickets to his name.

South African star Marco Jansen also chipped in with 36 Test wickets for his country, which included some strong performances against teams like England, India, Australia and New Zealand.

Afghanistan and New Zealand openers, Ibrahim Zadran and Finn Allen respectively, covered the remaining two slots for their batting spectacles in limited-overs internationals throughout 2022.

In the women’s category, Indian speedster Renuka Singh and ODI batter Yastika Bhatia made a cut into the contenders. With Team India representing half of the women’s nominations, England’s Alice Capsey and Australia’s Darcie Brown are the other nominees for their consistency in ODIs and T20Is.

Singh claimed 40 international wickets throughout the year, with 17 of them coming in the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the subsequent Asia Cup in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Bhatia listed 376 ODI runs in a year which featured an ODI World Cup and a three-match bilateral challenge in tough English conditions.

Capsey, at the age of just 17, made headlines in T20Is with her batting for England while Brown emerged as Australia’s potential bowling spearhead for the future.
