Australia head coach, Andrew McDonald, stated that Glenn Maxwell is expected to start in the ODI series against India, provided he recovers in time.

Maxwell was likely to feature in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, but his broken leg prevented him from being part of the squad. However, he has recently shown promising signs of returning to the field, featuring in Premier Cricket and an ongoing Sheffield Shield game for Victoria.

"If he (Maxwell) gets through everything that he needs to then he will be a starter for that one-day series (against India that follows the Tests). Anything forward of that will be discussed."

Following Australia's exit from the T20 World Cup 2022, Glenn Maxwell suffered a broken leg when he slipped at a friend's birthday party. Later, he underwent surgery and was ruled out of cricket action for four months.

Maxwell also offered an update on his injury, revealing that the past three months had been challenging for him, involving intensive gym workouts, rehabilitation exercises, pool sessions, and physiotherapy. He also expressed his excitement to return to playing cricket again.

"It’s been a pretty long journey over the last 3 and half months, so a lot of early morning sessions, gym, rehab, pool sessions, physio. To feel like I am at the back-end of that now and able to play some cricket is something I’m proud of."

The swashbuckling batter further expressed regret for not being able to participate in the Test series against India due to his unfortunate injury. He acknowledged that the freak injury might 'nag him' for the remainder of his life.

"Probably will nag at me for the rest of my life. It's nice getting the opportunity to watch your teammates play, especially over there. I think they've got the squad that's probably as good as I've seen to go over to India since I've been watching Tests over there, anyway."
