In an unfortunate turn of events, veteran Australian opener David Warner has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing Test series against India due to injury.

Notably, Warner sustained a hairline fracture after being struck by a Mohammed Siraj thunderbolt on his elbow on the first day of the recently concluded Test match in Delhi.

He was also hit on the helmet by Siraj, leading to a concussion, which prevented him from batting in the second innings of the game.

Although the swashbuckling southpaw will return to Sydney, he will rejoin the team before the ODI series slated to commence on March 17.

Despite coming on the back of a fruitful home summer, Warner continued his poor run in India, establishing himself as a walking wicket in the Test series.

The 36-year-old found it tough to get going against both seamers and spinners, managing only 26 runs at a miserable average of 8.67 across three innings.

While he was dismissed by Mohammed Shami twice, Ravichandran Ashwin trapped him plumb in front in the second innings in Nagpur.

Meanwhile, Travis Head, who flourished as an opener in Delhi, will likely continue to bat at the top for the visitors in Warner’s absence.

So, it will be interesting to see if Australia prefer to retain a horribly out-of-form Matt Renshaw or replace him with the promising Cameron Green in the Indore Test starting March 1.
