Australia's embarrassing defeat in the first Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur last week invited criticism from former legends, including Allan Border

The visitors lost the Nagpur Test by an innings and 132 runs, handing India a 1-0 lead, with the action shifting to Delhi for the second match this week.

Border, in his criticism, came down hard on Steve Smith, who was continuously seen praising Ravindra Jadeja via a thumps-up gesture after getting beaten at all ends while batting in the middle.

Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey has hit back at Border for his harsh words on Smith, saying every player has their own methods to focus.

As per PerthNow, the left-handed batter said that the Australian side is ready to battle it out in Delhi, where India have not lost a Test since 1987.

Here's what Carey said

"Border played many games of cricket over here and he has been a fantastic leader for Australia. I guess amongst the group guys do it differently," Carey stated while defending Smith.

"Smith plays around with his hands and does all that stuff and I think that's probably what gets him pretty focused. They're obviously strong comments (from Border), but as a group, we believe in what we're doing and come the second Test, we're ready to go."

Carey looked like the most menacing Australian batter in Nagpur on a turning track and took the attack to the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, displaying all variations of the sweep shot during his brief stay in both innings.
