The upcoming Irani Cup match between 2021-22 Ranji Trophy winners Madhya Pradesh and the Rest of India (RoI) will be moved out of Indore following the BCCI's decision to hold the third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Holkar Stadium.

The annual Irani Cup match was slated to begin on March 1, which also happens to be the commencement date for the third Test, which was earlier scheduled in Dharamsala.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah, speaking at the Women's Premier League (WPL) Auction yesterday, said the decision to shift the domestic fixture elsewhere was inevitable.

According to Cricbuzz, the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA), as per the norm, will write to the board about shifting the match to Gwalior.

Interestingly, this will be the second Irani Cup match this season, with 2020 Ranji Champions Saurashtra taking on RoI at Rajkot in October last year. This match could not be played due to the pandemic back in 2020.

As far as the ongoing Ranji Trophy is concerned, Bengal and Saurashtra will cross swords against each other in the all-important final starting this Thursday at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh, who will feature in the Irani Trophy encounter against RoI, were knocked out of the tournament, losing to Bengal in the semifinal.
