Former India batter Aakash Chopra has come out as KL Rahul's guardian as the latter's criticism by ex-India pacer Venkatesh Prasad did not sit down well with him.

While Prasad has been vocal of the Indian team management's favouritism of Rahul and the unfair treatment meted out to Shubman Gill, Chopra held him accountable for churning numbers that suits his agenda.

For the unversed, Prasad had posted a series of tweets on a portion of Test statistics of Gill, Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal and Ajinkya Rahane, briefly explaining that they had better numbers than Rahul but still had to be dropped.

However, Chopra came in Rahul's defence as he ran an analysis of his Test record alongside questioning Prasad's basis of criticism.

Here is what Chopra said on his YouTube channel:

"He (Prasad) didn't even write about Shubman's home numbers. Because you are showing averages, he has played 11 innings at home in which his average is 26.3. I am saying that you shouldn't judge Shubman Gill with averages. He is a damn good player. He is a better player than that but use the same yardstick for the others. He has shown 14 overseas innings in which he has an average of 37, in which he has conveniently not spoken about SENA countries. If we see only SENA, his numbers will also not be that good. His away numbers are looking good because of Bangladesh,

"I am not saying KL Rahul will become like Rohit Sharma but I humbly request you to stay calm. If there are any agendas, let's not peddle them. Let's talk about the numbers that are actually there and not those that suit your thoughts."

Although Rahul Dravid and Rohit have backed the 30-year-old even after his failure in the second Test of the ongoing series versus Australia, it would be interesting to see if he makes the XI in the upcoming match.
