India advanced to the semi-final of the 2023 Women's T20 World Cup after gaining a five-run win via DLS method against Ireland in the 18th match of the tournament.

Fielding becomes Ireland's nemesis

It was tough to keep an account of Ireland's lapses in the field as despite a few tough grabs, they could not hold onto many chances given by Smriti Mandhana, who ended up being India's top-scorer with her unbeaten 56-ball 87.

While Shafali Verma and Harmanpreet Kaur again looked scratchy, their 50-plus partnerships with Mandhana kept Ireland at Bay.

For Ireland, Laura Delany and Orla Prendergast pegged back the match a bit as the duo took three and two wickets respectively, however, Mandhana and then Jemimah Rodrigues ensured India set a formidable total of 155 runs.

India fall on the bright side of luck

Despite Gaby Lewis' 25-ball 32, Ireland fell short of the DLS score by five runs at the end of 8.2 overs.

After Renuka Singh Thakur bowled Prendergast for a duck in her first over, Ireland's scoring-rate could never pick up as a run-rate just a few deliveries eventually resulted in their defeat.

While Lewis had started to make amends, rain poured in heavily as play could not resume.
