In the match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Saturday, DC's young opener Prithvi Shaw faced yet another disappointment as he was run out for a duck by RCB's impact player Anuj Rawat.

The 23-year-old was run out for a duck in the first over, adding to his poor run in the tournament, where he has only managed the highest score of 15 from five innings. However, DC's assistant coach, Shane Watson, supports Shaw, stating that the talented batsman does not just "fall out of a tree."

In the post-match press conference, Watson explained that Shaw had been sitting out for 20 overs before he came in as the Impact Player, which might have affected his performance.

However, he emphasised that the talented youngster is as skilled as any other batsman in India, and his Test debut showcased his immense talent. The Australian also encouraged Shaw to access his skills without fear of making mistakes or getting out.

"Prithvi came off after sitting for 20 overs until the impact player rules came in. Otherwise he would be out there running around ready to take off and run that a little bit faster. Prithvi is as skilled as any other better in India. And everyone has seen that from the time he made his Test debut," said Watson.

Nevertheless, Watson expressed confidence in the Mumbai batter's ability to take down the best bowlers in the world in any condition.

"He can take down the best bowlers in the world and in all conditions. A player like Prithvi does not just fall out of a tree," the Australian veteran concluded.

Shaw's IPL record includes 1622 runs in 68 matches at an average of 23.85 and a strike rate of 146.65, with a top score of 99.

Despite his current poor form, Watson's comments reflect the belief that Shaw has the potential to bounce back and make a significant impact in the remaining matches of the tournament.

The legendary all-rounder's words of support for Shaw may give the young opener the boost he needs to regain his form and contribute to DC's success in IPL 2023.
