Exclusive | Why India Haven't Won an ICC Trophy Since 2013? Ian Bishop Explains

Despite being a ruthless force in international cricket, India have failed to win an ICC trophy since 2013. MS Dhoni led the Men in Blue to their second Champions Trophy title in 2013, and the elusive ICC trophy has been a distant dream for team India ever since. They have qualified for the knockouts, but somehow faltered in jumping the final hurdle.

Considering the resources they have, India's failure in the big events, especially knockouts, has baffled the passionate fans. As they gear up for the World Cup scheduled in October-November on home soil, legendary West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop has explained why India haven't lifted an ICC trophy in the last ten years.

In a conclave named 'Behind The Stumps', organised by OneCricket, the former fast bowler reverberated how India were short of preparations in the WTC finals they featured in. He also opined what they need to do in order to end their ICC trophy drought.

"Hard to really pinpoint any one thing. The World Test Championship finals were played in England. And there's an acclimatisation process, just a small example that you need when you go to England to compete well. And the two times they've made it, New Zealand were already playing Test cricket in England, and so they were ahead of the game. And then they encountered Australia there, and India had to fly in and turn things around in a short space of time," Bishop said.

"The other thing is you need your fast bowling resources if you're going to win ICC tournaments and trophies in the west. You need your group of fast bowlers healthy and functioning well. And I think combine that with the obvious batting talent, I think they'll win one somewhere along the line. They just need to align all of those," he concluded.

Talking about India, the Men in Blue will collide with West Indies in the fourth T20I of the five-match series in Florida, United States, on August 12.
