Netherlands’ emergence as a potential cricketing powerhouse turned out to be one of the many focal points of the 2023 World Cup in India. After earning their way to the tournament with a top two finish at the Qualifiers in Zimbabwe, the Dutchmen justified their late entry with thumping wins over Test giants South Africa and Bangladesh.

Under Scott Edwards, the spirited Netherlands group also gave Pakistan, Sri Lanka and defending champions England a run for their money at one stage of their face-off, before eventually falling behind on their big day.

Regardless, despite their imminent exit from the tournament’s semi-final race, Netherlands players surely must have picked up a thing or two while standing alongside some of the modern-day greats of the game.

One such Dutchman, Indian expat Vikramjit Singh, undoubtedly took note of Virat Kohli’s stellar run with the bat for Team India throughout the 2023 World Cup, which saw the Indian legend racking up nearly 550 runs with two centuries and four additional fifty-plus scores to his name.

Vikramjit Singh speaks on Virat Kohli’s success

Netherlands opening batsman Vikramjit Singh recently caught up with OneCricket and expressed his views behind Virat Kohli’s batting success for Team India in the ongoing 2023 World Cup. During an exclusive interview, the 20-year-old said:

“Everyone wants to bat like Virat Kohli and score 50 centuries. But as I said, he has found his own way of scoring big runs, play his cricket and everyone has to find a method to be successful. I can't be a right-hander and bat like Virat Kohli (laughs) and everybody has to find a way to play their cricket.”

Vikramjit Singh and his Dutch teammates are slated to face Team India in their final league fixture on November 12 in Bengaluru. While the upcoming contest is a virtual dead-rubber for both sides, a win for Netherlands to sign off from the tournament might well earn them one of the eight participating seats for the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
