Australia legends Adam Gilchrist and Mark Waugh have backed Tim David to make his way to the team's playing XI in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Representing Australia for the first time in the recently-concluded T20I series versus India, David showed his batting prowess to the hilt in the Hyderabad game yesterday. Amidst a collapse, the swashbuckler at first anchored the innings and went for the full monty in the death overs to score a 27-ball 54, also his maiden half-century for Australia.

Here's what Gilchrist and Waugh said about David

Opinion that the 26-year-old instils fear among the opposition, Gilchrist stated that David should be in Australia's World Cup XI.

"Tim David should have a place in that XI. His power and the way he has taken it on...and seeing what we have seen from him over the last 18 months all around the world, it is really in all different conditions and they (opposition teams) will fear him coming in. It is a role that Australia have never really tried to fill, having someone who knows they are only going to get 15 or 20 balls (to make an impact)."

Waugh resonated with Gilchrist on this thought, however, added a rider that things could change with form.

"I have got Tim David in the XI at this stage. That could change with form, but that looks a pretty good side to me."

Before the World Cup beckons, the defending champions will face-off West Indies and England in respective T20I series.
