Yuvraj Singh seems to have taken another Team India opener under his wings. After nurturing current Indian Test captain Shubman Gill and explosive T20I opener Abhishek Sharma, the former Indian all-rounder was recently spotted training Sanju Samson as the blistering wicketkeeper-batter preps up for the upcoming 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

On Saturday, January 10; a video circulating on social media featured Yuvraj Singh giving away some valuable tips to Sanju Samson in the nets, i.e., doing so mere days prior to India’s T20I series against the visiting New Zealand.

A video circulating on social media featured former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh giving away some invaluable tips to attacking wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson.

Samson, who has been named in Team India squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand as well as in the subsequent 2026 ICC T20 World Cup at home next month, seemingly appeared keen to sharpen his batting approach under the guidance of the former World Cup-winning all-rounder.

Sanju Samson replaces Shubman Gill just before T20 World Cup

While Sanju Samson was part of the Indian team that won the 2025 Asia Cup in the UAE, toured Australia and faced South Africa in home T20Is late last year, the blistering wicketkeeper-batter was relegated from his usual opening position in favor of Shubman Gill, one of Yuvraj Singh’s oldest protégés.

Earlier, Sanju Samson had served the Indian team as regular opening batter, and even blasted match-winning T20I centuries against Bangladesh at home and against South Africa in away series. However, a dip in form during India’s home series against England in early 2025 prompted the Indian team management to bring in Shubman Gill.

Nonetheless, Sanju Samson has once again replaced Gill to reclaim his lost opening position after the latter failed to notch up a single half-century in the entirety of the 2025 Asia Cup and in the away series against Australia.
