Just a few days ago, Pakistan pacer Zaman Khan was brutally trolled by Australian cricketer David Warner for his unorthodox, almost “4-year-old kid-like” bowling action. However, Zaman Khan showed remarkable grit and bounced back strongly from the criticism that made his Big Bash League debut a nightmare.

During the Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes clash, the 35th match of BBL 2025–26, Zaman bowled one of the most memorable overs of his career to help Heat defend a skimpy total of 158.

How Zaman Khan produced a spell for the ages?

Zaman Khan held his nerve in a thrilling final over as Brisbane Heat clinched a dramatic three-run win. Hobart Hurricanes needed six runs from the final six deliveries, and Zaman was handed the responsibility despite conceding 27 runs in his previous three overs.

Nathan Ellis was on strike to begin the over, and Zaman started with a dot ball. A single followed, leaving five runs needed, with Nikhil Chaudhary taking strike. Another dot ball built the pressure further.

With five runs required off the final two balls, Chaudhary attempted a powerful shot down the ground but mistimed it, allowing Michael Neser to take a simple catch. The equation then came down to six to win and five to force a Super Over from the final delivery.

Zaman kept his composure and bowled a full delivery outside off to Rishad Hossain, who managed only a single, as Brisbane Heat sealed a sensational three-run victory. It was a comeback for the ages, as a match that seemed firmly in Hobart’s grasp was snatched away by Zaman Khan’s coming-of-age final over.

How did Brisbane and Hobart fare in the match?

Zaman Khan had a below-par outing with the ball, finishing with figures of one wicket for 29 runs in his four overs. The Pakistan fast bowler, known for his unconventional action, was trusted by Brisbane Heat skipper Usman Khawaja after the team posted a competitive total of around 160, thanks to Nathan McSweeney’s 49 and Matt Renshaw’s 37.

Hobart Hurricanes struggled early in the chase, losing Tim Ward in the first over and Mitchell Owen in the fourth. The middle overs saw some resistance, with Ben McDermott and Beau Webster adding runs.

However, the lower middle order collapsed quickly, especially in the 19th over, where key breakthroughs by Xavier Bartlett and Michael Neser tilted the game in Heat’s favour and set up a tense final over with six needed from six balls.

Was this a redemption for Zaman Khan?

For Zaman Khan, the match felt like redemption. The 24-year-old Pakistan right-arm fast bowler, brought in primarily as the replacement of Shaheen Afridi, delivered under extreme pressure and silenced his bowling action critics with a performance that showcased his temperament.

Despite having just one wicket from two matches this BBL season so far, Zaman is set to feature again for Brisbane Heat and will be keen to build on this confidence-boosting outing.
