It was an absolute show-stopper of a match at Chinnaswamy in the 8th match of WPL 2025 between DC Women and UP Warriorz Women. The match saw an absolute turnaround from UP Warriorz' side who were once at a disadvantage in the first half of the game. However, Chinelle Henry's knock turned the tide.
UPW gained total control and seized the day with the ball too as Goud and Grace Harris shone for the team. With the excitement of the match radiant enough, here's how things panned out between the two teams at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru:
Jess Jonassen Orchestrates UP Warriorz's Early Collapse
The UP Warriorz Women found themselves in deep trouble after a shaky start against Delhi Capitals Women at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Their powerplay yielded 38 runs, but they lost opener Vrinda Dinesh early as Marizanne Kapp struck in the third over. Kiran Navgire counter-attacked with aggressive strokes but perished in the deep, while Arundhati Reddy cleaned up Shweta Sehrawat soon after.
Deepti Sharma's promising start was cut short as she fell into Jess Jonassen’s trap, leaving UP Warriorz reeling at 80/4 after 11 overs. The situation worsened as Kapp dismissed the dangerous Grace Harris, and Shikha Pandey removed Uma Chetry, reducing them to a precarious 109/7.
Chinelle Henry Unleashes Mayhem To Turn The Tide
Just when UP Warriorz looked set for a below-par total, Chinelle Henry produced one of the finest knocks in Women’s T20 cricket. The West Indian all-rounder launched a ferocious counter-attack, smashing 62 off just 23 balls. Supported by Sophie Ecclestone, Henry tore into the Capitals' bowlers, who lost control under pressure.
She dismantled the attack with brute force, propelling UP Warriorz to 177/9 in 20 overs. Jess Jonassen was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Kapp bagged two, but Delhi’s 25 extra runs proved costly. Henry’s late blitz turned the game on its head, giving UP Warriorz a fighting chance in the second half of the game.
Jemimah Rodrigues' Lone Fifty Brings Hope To DC's Camp
Amidst Delhi Capitals Women's dramatic collapse in their chase of 178 against UP Warriorz in WPL 2025, Jemimah Rodrigues stood tall with a valiant 56 off just 35 balls. She walked in early after the dismissals of Meg Lanning (5) and Shafali Verma (24), with Delhi struggling at 43/2 in the eighth over. Rodrigues counterattacked with crisp strokeplay, smashing eight boundaries and a six to keep Delhi in the hunt.
As wickets continued to tumble around her, Rodrigues fought on, but couldn’t hold on for long, as she eventually perished at 111/6 in the 15th over.
Grace Harris' Hat-Trick Seals The Deal For Warriorz
Grace Harris etched her name in WPL history by claiming the first hat trick of the 2025 season, sealing a dominant 33-run victory for UP Warriorz against Delhi Capitals Women. Defending 178, Harris ran through DC’s lower order, dismissing Niki Prasad, Arundhati Reddy, and Minnu Mani in consecutive deliveries to wrap up the innings at 144 in 19.3 overs.
Harris finished with four wickets in the match, delivering a match-changing spell in the final over. Her remarkable one-handed return catch to dismiss Mani marked the final breakthrough, securing a commanding win for the Warriorz by 33 runs.
