Grace Harris unbeaten 59 off 26 helped UP Warriorz to beat Gujarat Giants by three wickets in Match 3 of the ongoing Women's Premier League 2023 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The Warriorz needed 53 off the last three balls and pulled it off with one ball to spare.

Harleen Deol top scored for Giants

After electing to bat first, Gujarat Giants had a good start, with both the openers Sabbhineni Meghana and Sophia Dunkley giving their side a brisk start early in the powerplay.

In order to cease the scoring rate, skipper Alyssa Healy introduced Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone into the attack. The spin duo did wonders as both the openers were immediately dismissed and Gujarat were 45 for two at the end of the powerplay.

Gujarat further went on to lose a couple of more wickets and Harleen Deol alongside Ashleigh Gardner had to reconstruct the innings. The duo kept the scoreboard moving and had a handy partnership for the fifth wicket. Gardner departed just before the death overs, while Deol at the other end, eyeing a big finish in the final four, struck four consecutive boundaries off Devika Vaidya.

Deol fell four short of a well deserving half century, but Dayalan Hemalatha's 13-ball 21 cameo made sure team’s total got closer to the 170-mark at the end of the 20 overs. Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone were the pick of the bowlers, grabbing two wickets each.

Kim Garth’s 5-fer in vain

Chasing 170, UP Warriorz got off to a horrible start, losing three of their top four batters inside the powerplay. Kim Garth was on fire right from her first spell early in the powerplay, taking three wickets in her second over and UP Warriorz were 35 for three at the end of the powerplay.

Kiran Navgire alongside Deepti Sharma tried to stitch a partnership and took the team’s total to 70 at the halfway mark with no further damage. Navgire completed her half century but soon was halted by Garth, who went on to complete her five-wicket haul.

The Warriorz were losing their plot in the run chase, needing more than 15 runs per over from the last four. Grace Harris was holding one end and unleashed the demolition job with the bat in the last three overs. The Australian took every bowler to the cleaners and got UP back in the game. With 19 required from the last over, Harris finished the game with one ball to spare to complete an unbelievable turnaround.
