Kris Srikkanth Happy With KL Rahul's Snub for Indore Test

Former India skipper Kris Srikkanth said that he was happy for KL Rahul that he didn’t play in the third Test against Australia given that the pitch was tough to bat on.

Owing to his poor form with the bat, Rahul was not picked for the third Test in Indore, bringing to an end a heated debate over his inclusion in the team. He was replaced by the in-form Shubman Gill. Team India's ploy to play Gill over Rahul in the playing XI did not pay dividends as the young opener only scored a combined tally of 36 runs in the two innings and was dismissed cheaply in both.

The rest of the Indian batters failed to score runs. As a result, Australia wrapped up a nine-wicket victory in the low-scoring encounter to end India's nine-match unbeaten run at home as spinners ran riot on a pitch that has been rated poor by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

While a lot of the talk has surrounded the Indore pitch, ex-India opener Srikkanth was happy that Rahul missed out on the Indore Test. He reasoned that playing on Indore's pitch would've ended his career.

"First and foremost, I am happy for KL Rahul. Thankfully, good that he did not play. If he had played on these wickets, and failed to get going in the next two Tests, and if his career had ended... thank god, he didn't play. Frankly, speaking,"  Kris Srikkanth said in his YouTube channel.

After a shocking defeat in the third Test, team India needs to win the next Test match in Ahmedabad in order to qualify for the WTC final. If India settles with a draw in the Ahmedabad Test, then they will have to depend on the result of the New Zealand-Sri Lanka Test series.
