Star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is going to miss the forthcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) as he is far from getting recovered from his back injury which he suffered last year in August. Bumrah, who was ruled out from the Asia Cup 2022, followed by the T20 World Cup in Australia has been suggested to go through a back surgery in the coming days.

As a result he will not be able to play for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023, and also most probably the World Test Championship Final (if India qualify), which is scheduled to start from June 7, later this year at the Oval in London.

The medical staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru was always treating Bumrah on urgency as the 29-year-old constantly tried to be back in action after being injured with his lower back, which seemed to have occurred as a stress reaction last August.

Bumrah was even named in India's original T20 World Cup squad in September last year. To prove his match fitness, Bumrah played a couple of T20 internationals against Australia but couldn't take part in the third T20I as he injured his lower back once again, subsequently ruling him out of the marquee tournament in Australia.

The rehabilitation continued till late December and Bumrah showed positive progression. Looking at the positive progression, selectors added Bumrah to India's squad for white ball series against Sri Lanka in the last hour.

However, Bumrah suffered another niggle while going through a high intensity fitness drill in Mumbai in January. Eventually, he could not take part in the white-ball series against Sri Lanka and was further ruled out of the four-match Test series against Australia.

With the ODI World Cup scheduled to take part later this year, the medical team at the NCA has suggested Bumrah to go through a back surgery, which eventually will rule him out of the IPL 2023. BCCI will soon take an official step towards this Bumrah situation in cooperation with NCA and Bumrah himself as they want Bumrah to be back in action only when he is 100% ready.
