Brief Scores: Australia: 399-8 (50 overs) [Glenn Maxwell: 106 (44), David Warner: 104 (93); Logan van Beek 4/74 (10), Bas de Leede 2/115 (10)] defeated Netherlands: 90 all out (21 overs) [Vikramjit Singh: 25 (25), Teja Nidamanuru: 14 (18); Adam Zampa 4/8 (3), Mitchell Marsh 2/19 (4)] by 309 runs.

Australia unequivocally decimated the Netherlands to sustain their newfound winning momentum at the 2023 World Cup. The Australian carnage in Delhi also injected Pat Cummins and co. with a huge NRR booster to strengthen their chances of a top-four finish.

Warner lays foundation before Maxwell unleashes fury

Australian opener David Warner made the most of his blistering run with the bat as the dynamic southpaw flogged the Dutchmen with his second successive World Cup 2023 century. The batting veteran scored 104 from just 93 balls and shared belligerent stands with half-centurions Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne.

Glenn Maxwell, who arrived at the crease after 39 overs, further pulverized a battered Netherlands attack with a sequence of extraordinary sixes and boundaries at the death. The batting barbarian slapped a scorching 106 from just 44 deliveries to record the fastest-ever century in the history of the World Cup, as Australia amassed 399-8 after opting to bat first.

Dutch paceman Logan van Beek, who had dismissed both Australian openers 35 overs apart, contained a death-over assault to some extent with a tight last over, which featured wickets of Maxwell and Mitchell Starc in successive deliveries. The speedster eventually finished his spell with four wickets at the expense of 74 runs, while his teammate Bas de Leede notched up a century of his own by giving away 115 runs from his 10 overs.

Zampa dismantles Netherlands to set up big AUS win

After batters reaped the benefits of pristine playing conditions in the first innings, spinner Adam Zampa and medium pacer Mitchell Marsh drained the last ounce of life from the Netherlands’ fruitless run-chase to set up a huge NRR-boosting win for Australia.

Pacers Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood also came to the fore with wickets upfront before Zampa scythed through the Dutch tail with his third successive four-fer of the tournament. Australia’s collective bowling dominance folded up the Netherlands for just 90 in 21 overs as Cummins and co. registered a 309-run triumph for themselves, an all-time record win margin at a World Cup.
