Australia's dynamic all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, smashed the fastest century in ODI World Cup history at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday (October 25) against the Netherlands, breaking the record set earlier in the tournament by South Africa's Aiden Markram.

Maxwell's appearance in the 40th over did not initially hint at a century. Still, he defied all expectations by dismantling the Netherlands' bowlers, lighting up the Delhi ground with his innovative shots to complete the fastest century in World Cup history.

Maxwell's achievement also marks a one-of-a-kind milestone. The explosive right-handed batter is now the first player in the history of One-Day Internationals to score a century after facing the first ball beyond the 40th over.

Maxwell's half-century came in a brisk 26 deliveries, and he reached the three-figure mark in the following 14 balls. On his way to this milestone, the Australian bludgeoned nine boundaries and launched eight towering sixes.

Addressing the media after his world-record feat, Glenn Maxwell shed light on the audacious ramp shots that he unleashed during his historic knock. Maxwell confidently stated that he had enough time to take on those deliveries.

"Even if they are banging it into the wicket, I feel I have enough time to go after it. And when they are bowling quick, my hands have to be faster. Just generally try to get it over the infield.”

Thanks to the centuries from David Warner and Glenn Maxwell, Australia ended up posting a mammoth total of 399 runs on the board for the loss of nine wickets.
