Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in a low-scoring Group A match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on October 3.

Here’s the timeline of how PAK-W vs SL-W panned out in Sharjah:

PAK-W vs SL-W Highlights: PAK Crash To 57-4 In 10 Overs

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Pakistan opener Gull Feroza scored just two before she was out caught behind by Anushka Sanjeewani off Sugandika Kumari in the second over of the match.

Feroza’s opening partner Muneeba Ali (11 off 14) also made her way back to the sheds courtesy of Kumari a couple of overs later in the innings. Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu and off-spinner Kavisha Dilhari soon came to the fore with a wicket each as Pakistan Women crashed to 57-4 at the end of the first 10 overs.

PAK-W vs SL-W Highlights: Triple Three-Fer Restrict PAK To 116

Udeshika Prabodhani cleaned up a well-set Nida Dar for 23 at 72-5 to once again open the floodgates for the Sri Lankan team.

Chamari Athapaththu also snagged the wickets of Tuba Hassan and Aliya Riaz off successive deliveries to claim astonishing figures of 3-18 from her four overs. After her opening burst, Sugandika Kumari claimed Diana Baig for two as Pakistan slipped to 84-8 with more than five overs still remaining in the innings.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana rescued her team with a 20-ball 30, and shared a vital 28-run partnership with number 10 Nashra Sandhu. With Pakistan attaining some respectability at 116, both Sana and number 11 Sadia Iqbal were dismissed by Udeshika Prabodhani (3-20) in the final over as the new ball pacer bagged a three-fer of her own in the low-scoring innings.

PAK-W vs SL-W Highlights: Omaima Sohail Seizes Early Advantage For PAK

Pakistan fast bowler Fatima Sana delivered the first breakthrough for her team in the run-chase by getting rid of in-form Sri Lankan opener and captain Chamari Athapaththu for just six.

Off-spinner Omaima Sohail further piled on the momentum with the key wickets of Harshitha Samarawickrama and Hasini Perera as Sri Lanka slipped to 35-3 in less than eight overs. Struggling to put runs on the board, the Lankans had to crawl their way to a sluggish 44-3 at the halfway stage of the innings.

PAK-W vs SL-W Highlights: Sadia Iqbal’s Three-Fer Flattens SL As PAK Claim Big Win

Sri Lankan fortunes turned for the worse in the second half of their run-chase as they lost three wickets in quick succession to Sadia Iqbal, who hauled an impressive four-over spell of 3-17.

With no batter barring Vishmi Gunaratne (20 off 34) and Nilakshika Silva (22 off 25) managing to crack the 20-run mark, the Sri Lankan response was restricted to just 85-9 from 20 overs as Pakistan claimed a huge 31-run victory to start off their ICC Women’s 2024 T20 World Cup campaign on a winning note.
