Bangladesh made light work of the Scotland team and won the opening game of the Women's T20 World Cup by 16 runs on Thursday. It was an all-round efforts from the entire side as they defeated a resilient Scottish side on a surface which was decent for the batters.

Bangladesh Top-3 gives solid start at the top

The top-3 batters, Shathi Rani, Murshida Khatun, and Sobhana Mostary gave a solid start after Bangladesh women elected to bat first. The wicket wasn't the most productive for batting, but the trio added important runs at the top and laid the foundation for the middle-ordr batters.

Mostary looked decent and played a gritty knock of 36, and despite the low-strike-rate, she ensured that the foundation was laid for a big total on the board. Khatun, was expected to play the big innings, but one lapse of concentration led to her wicket.

She played a rash shot and the catch was taken in the deep as Scotland found a opening in the game.

Scotland pull things back with flurry of wickets

Bangladesh middle-order batters had a foundation laid, but they struggled to capitalise on the momentum as they lost wickets at regular intervals. From 68/2 to 118/7, the side lost 5 wickets in no time and it allowed the Scotland side to crawl back in the contest.

Skipper, Nigar Sultana played a brief cameo of a run-a-ball 18, but she couldn't go on to play the big knock. It was Fahima Khatun, who gave the finishing touches and scored a 5-ball 10 to take the total towards 119/7.

Sarah Jennifer's knock goes in vain as Scotland fail in the chase

Sarah Jennifer Bryce, the keeper-batter of Scotland scored 49 runs, and the next highest score was 11, showcasing her dominance in the Scottish defeat.

The Scotland side were never really in the contest, as Jennifer Bryce had no support from the other end. She played with grit and determination, and was the lone warrior for her side.

Ritu Moni was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped 2 for 15 and stole the show with the ball as Bangladesh started the tournament with a win.
