In what seems to be bad news for the cricket fans, the action has been stopped in the ongoing BBL 2025-26 game between Sydney Sixers vs Hobart Hurricanes at the SCG. The entire square has been covered due to the steady rain, after the game of just five overs in the first innings.

Meanwhile, the weather is expected to remain the same in Sydney for the next three hours, with no chance of clear skies. According to accuweather, the humidity is also expected to stay around 70 percent with the winds of 22 km/h. So, the chances of the game getting restarted are very low.

Speaking of the game, the Hobart Hurricanes' skipper Ben McDermott won the toss and asked the Sixers to bat first. At the time of the rain interruption, the opening pair of Babar Azam and Steve Smith was there in the middle for the Sixers.

The duo had added 32 runs in five overs before the rain forced them to stop play. Babar and Smith went back to the pavilion with the individual scores of nine runs off 14 balls and 19 runs off 16 balls. Bill Stanlake and Riley Meredith had bowled two overs each, conceding nine and 14 runs, respectively, alongside Beau Webster's one over, in which he conceded six runs.

BBL 2025-26 scenario if the SYS vs HBH game gets abandoned

If the game gets abandoned due to rain, both teams will share a point each. This point might not make a big difference for the Hurricanes, but it will be the boost of a spot in the Sixers' position on the tournament's points table. Notably, the Sydney Sixers are currently placed at the fourth spot in the standings, with eight points after four wins and three defeats in seven games.

Sharing a point with Hobart Hurricanes will help the hosts move up a spot in the tally, with nine points, surpassing the Perth Scorchers.

On the other hand, it will be an addition to Hobart Hurricanes' top-spot dominance in the tournament's current edition. They are currently leading the tournament's points tally, with 12 points after six wins and two defeats in their eight games so far.

The rain in SYS vs HBH game could hit the Brisbane Heat's playoff hopes

Besides that, the Brisbane Heat, who are placed at number five in the points table, will not want this game abandoned. If it happens, the Scorchers will be in the fourth spot, and the difference in net run rate could make it very tough for the fifth-placed Heat to seal a place among the top four teams in the tournament.

The Brisbane Heat have won and lost four games each in their eight BBL 2025-26 games so far. Their net run rate is an obstacle to their journey to the playoffs, given an equal number of wins and defeats so far. Following the Brisbane Heat, the Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Renegades are also in contention for the playoffs, with six points each after the same number of wins and defeats in their respective seven games so far.

Update: The SYS vs HBH game has been abandoned due to rain
