James Anderson, the 42-year-old English legend, is all set to lead Lancashire in the two County Championship matches during the absence of Marcus Harris. The cricketer, with 1131 first-class wickets, will start his short captaincy stint through a game against Kent on June 22.

The regular skipper Marcus Harris will not be available for two matches due to the birth of his second child. James Anderson will thus be the third captain for Lancashire this season, as Keaton Jennings handed over he leadership duties to Marcus Harris after five games.

James Anderson Assigned Duty Of Bringing Lancashire Back On Track

Lancashire have not won a single game out of seven played so far, recording five draws and two losses. They have seven more games to go and would have to start winning matches to take upward flight on the points table.

James Anderson himself was not part of the initial six matches due to a calf injury but came back strongly to pick four wickets in the only County game he has played this season. The pacer has also shown good form in the T20 blast with 10 wickets in four matches and will need to use all his experience and skills to bring Lancashire back on track.

Lancashire's interim head coach, Stephen Croft, also expressed confidence that James Anderson's experience will bring new energy in the side during his interaction with BBC.

"Jimmy will lead the side and it is exciting for him and us. He has captained only once and that was in a pre-season tour T20 game in Dubai so it will be nice for Jimmy and nice for the lads. He has obviously got a lot to offer on and off the field. It will be a proud moment for him. It is not obviously all on Jimmy but it helps and his presence, particularly as captain, is a massive boost for the rest of the lads."

Lancashire will play against Derbyshire after their home game against Kent, and they can use the services of Ashton Turner and Chris Green in Harris' absence. Thus, James Anderson, who retired from international cricket in 2024, is set to embark on a new challenging journey with hopes of his county on his shoulder.
