WI vs IND Day 3, 3rd Session: Talking Points

Final session starts with high-octane action

The final session commenced with the West Indies on 174/3. Jermaine Blackwood started with a bang, dispatching the first ball to the boundary off Ravindra Jadeja's delivery. The Indian spinner, however, soon redeemed himself, by dismissing Blackwood. Ajinkya Rahane took a breathtaking catch at first slip, sending a diligent Blackwood back to the pavilion with 20 runs from 92 balls.

Athanaze and Da Silva's measured approach

Alick Athanaze and Joshua Da Silva adopted a cautious approach, playing disciplined cricket devoid of risky shots. Da Silva, after overcoming an initial jolt of nerves and settling in, was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj's seaming delivery that took down his middle stump.

Rain interruption and late action

Da Silva's dismissal was the last piece of action before rain swept in, putting the game on a standstill with West Indies at 208/5. The rain interruption cost nearly 50 minutes of play. The game resumed post the weather break, with about an hour left in the day.

In the subsequent 20 overs after the rain halt, Athanaze and Jason Holder batted with determination, adding 21 runs to the score without any undue risk. The West Indies walked back at Stumps on Day 3 at 229/5, still trailing India by a hefty 209 runs.

Expectations from Day 4

West Indies will aim to mirror their commendable Day 3 performance and chip away at the existing deficit as the match progresses. Simultaneously, the visitors will be eager to strike early wickets on Day 4 to consolidate their dominant lead.
