Young left-handed batter Tilak Varma added a jewel to his crown on Sunday night as he became the 2nd youngest Indian to score a half-century in T20Is.

Varma was once again the pick of the Indian batsmen in an otherwise horror night for the visitors. The 20-year-old missed out on a well-deserved half-century in the last game, but he made sure that he reached the milestone this time around.

Varma smashed 5 fours and a six to notch up his maiden international half-century. He was eventually dismissed for a 41-ball 51, but not before he had leapfrogged wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant to become the 2nd youngest Indian to score a 50 in this format.

Varma, 20 years & 271 days, leapfrogged the dynamic Delhi stumper, who had scored his maiden T20I half-century at the age of 21 years & 38 days against the West Indies back in 2018.

The all-time Indian record for the youngest to score a T20I half-century belongs to opener Rohit Sharma, who scored a brilliant match-winning 50 off 40 deliveries in a crucial Super-8 fixture against South Africa at the 2007 T20 World Cup.

Speaking of the match, Hardik Pandya's double-strike in the first over of WI innings and a late collapse from the visitors wasn't enough for India to defend their total of 152/7 as a blistering half-century from Nicholas Pooran (67 off 40) and handy lower-order runs from Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph guided the home side to a thrilling win.

The 3rd T20I will take place at the same venue on August 08.
