WI vs IND | Kohli, Jadeja Stand Tall as India Finish Day 1 On a High Note

After suffering a mini-collapse, India managed to fight back and resurrect their innings in the final session on day 1 of the second Test against West Indies, courtesy of a consolidating stand between Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. As a result of their valiant efforts, the visitors finished day 1 with 288 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets.

The third session began with India being in a spot of bother, placed at 182 for four. West Indies seamers had their tails up, with the track assisting them and a new batter entering the middle. They were much more disciplined and targeted the right areas more often than not in a bid to break the fifth wicket stand and get through the bottom five. However, Kohli and Jadeja showcased exemplary stoicism to keep the hosts at bay and safeguard India without further casualties before stumps.

While Kohli looked comfortable in the middle, becoming the first batter to slam a fifty on 500th international match, Jadeja had answers to the body-line bowling tactics employed by the Windies pacers to disturb his rhythm. Despite West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite playing all his tricks, the experienced Indian duo managed to go unbeaten to the dressing room, powering their side to 288 for four at stumps on day 1.

What to expect from day 2?

With six wickets in hand, India would like to bat long and post a massive first-innings total on the board. However, the stand between Jadeja and Kohli holds the key, as a wicket against the run of play could swing the game into the hosts' favour.
