Two wrongs may not make a right, but two wounded teams can surely pull off a few inspiring counters. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team faced an upsetting defeat in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final last June. Meanwhile, the West Indies are going through one of their steepest lows as they failed to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, to be hosted later this year.

Both the teams will look to rework the brand of cricket they play as they commence a new WTC cycle at Dominica with a two-Test match series starting from July 12.

WI vs IND, 1st Test: Team Preview

India

After the defeat in the last WTC cycle's final, Team India has decided to begin its transition. As the bigger names are heading towards the twilight of their career, the Windies tour will see younger faces like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan and Mukesh Kumar get into the groove and become pillars of the Test setup.

Against a not-so-strong Windies lineup, the Indian team management could re-work their plans and ideas as the Caribbean challenge would be one of the easier ones compared to the rest of the five series for India in this WTC cycle for 2023-25.

West Indies

As mentioned by various greats and pundits, West Indies are going through their most awful nosedive in all formats of the game. However, the Kraigg Brathwaite-led unit has had a decent record at home, of late, challenging England, Bangladesh and Pakistan in the last cycle.

The Islanders would be low on confidence after failing to qualify for the Cricket World Cup 2023. Still, the likes of Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, Shannon Gabriel and Jason Holder could provide a stern test to the Indians.

Virat Kohli: The former Indian captain is among India's best touring batters, and he has had prolific numbers while playing against West Indies. Averaging 43.26, Kohli has scored 822 runs with two centuries and five fifties against Windies.

Rohit Sharma: The Indian captain averages the best against the Windies at 112.66 per innings. However, his stats in the Caribbean Islands aren't pleasing, but having said that, the opener Rohit is a whole different story.

Ravichandran Ashwin: West Indies has always been a hunting ground for Ravi Ashwin, both with the bat and ball. Outside Asia, the Caribbean has the only place where the off-spinner has scalped a five-wicket haul (2). He also slammed two Test centuries the last time India toured the Islands.

Kraigg Brathwaite: The Windies captain will have to score tons of runs if he needs his team to give a fight to India in the series. Against India, Brathwaite has scored 448 runs, averaging 22.40 with no centuries against the opposition. And his average drops to 12.33 at Windsor Park.

Jason Holder: The former Windies captain is nearly a bowling milestone as he is 8 wickets shy of completing 100 Test wickets at home. Although his numbers, both with the bat and ball, aren't too enjoyable against India.

Kemar Roach: The 35-year-old seamer has to be the best bowler in the West Indies line-up, and he enjoys playing against India. In five innings, Roach has 11 wickets against India at an average of 27.81.

WI vs IND, 1st Test: Prediction

The home team would need to bat, bowl and field out of their skin to beat this Indian lineup. Similarly, the visitors would have to play awful cricket to lose any game on this tour.
