On Monday, in BBL 2025's second game between Melbourne Renegades and Brisbane Heat, Shaheen Shah Afridi was refused permission to bowl further after sending down two high full-tosses during his third over.
One of the highest-profile names to join the BBL, Afridi, with the sheer pace to burn and a scary ability to swing the new ball, had a not-so-good start to his Big Bash campaign.
Pakistan's 'premium' fast bowler bowls 3 no balls on BBL debut
The 25-year-old was the Heat's first draft pick to make his BBL debut. However, bowling in the franchise's inaugural game for the season, Afridi, in his 3rd over of the spell, bowled two beamers.
The first came on the 3rd delivery; a low full toss outside off was driven by Peake to the sweeper in the off side for a single. Followed by a new ball due to fielding blunder, with one fielder short in the circle. Soom, another waist-high full toss outside off by Shaheen in the same over was signalled as a no-ball by the umpire.
Hence, Pakistan's former white-ball captain Shaheen Shah Afridi ended with three no balls in an over.
Adding salt to the wound, he conceded 43 runs in 2.4 overs and went wicketless. Despite a decent first over, Shaheen conceded 19 runs in his second, getting hit for 2 fours and a six.
Making his BBL debut for the Brisbane Heat, the left-arm pacer had a nightmarish day as he failed to display dominance, with Tim Siefert smashing him all over the park. He fell short of putting pressure on the Renegades' batting line-up, conceding runs at an economy of 16.13.
So far, Shaheen Afridi, along with his other Pakistan teammates, including Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, have not been able to prove their mettle in the Australia's premium T20 league, Big Bash League 2025.
