In the ongoing first ODI between New Zealand and Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium, the visitors are in a comfortable position and eyeing to start the tri-series on a positive note. Notably, the visitors, batting first, put 330 runs on the board, courtesy of Glenn Phillips' century.

In reply, Pakistan got off to the perfect start as Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam stitched a 52-run stand for the first wicket. However, since the introduction of spin and in particular, captain Mitchell Santner, things started to turn in New Zealand's favour. The effect was such that the hosts went from 103/1 to 119/4.

Rizwan Registers A Flop Show

Men in Green lost both openers and also skipper Mohammad Rizwan, who fell into Santner's trap and was given LBW out. On the 1st ball of the 23rd over, Rizwan looked to flick Santner's delivery on the backfoot towards the leg-side, but completely missed it and the umpire raised his finger. However, Rizwan went for a DRS, but it was of now use as the replay showed three reds, and the captain returned to the pavilion with a disappointed face for a score of 3 runs. Pakistan Dealt Heavy Blow In The 1st ODI

It is worth noting that the hosts were ahead in the game in most of the first innings, but Haris Rauf dealt a blow and left the field. The spinners couldn't control the run flow and it helped New Zealand put 330 runs on the board.

Talking about the match, at the time of writing this article, Pakistan are 166/4 and still require 164 runs to win in 18 overs.
