In the 5th Test of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024 between Purani Dilli-6 and East Delhi Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on August 20, Purani Dilli-6 skipper Rishabh Pant is notably absent. 

The exact reasons for his omission from the match have not been disclosed officially, but speculation suggests that Pant may be taking a well-deserved rest.

Lalit Yadav will step in as captain in Rishabh Pant's absence. Pant's decision to miss this match aligns with reports indicating his focus is shifting towards the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024. 

His involvement in the DPL was initially brief, with his only appearance being in the opening fixture against the South Delhi Superstarz, where he scored 35 runs.

Rishabh Pant to play Duleep Trophy 

According to sources, Pant had agreed to participate in the DPL only for the early fixtures, planning to dedicate the rest of his time to the Duleep Trophy. This strategic move is seen as part of his preparation for the forthcoming Test series against Bangladesh. 

A successful performance in the Duleep Trophy could pave the way for Pant's return to the Indian Test squad for the first time since 2022.
