The highly anticipated inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) burst into action on August 17, as Purani Delhi-6 clashed with the South Delhi Superstarz in a thrilling tournament opener at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Rishabh Pant, leading Purani Dilli, faced a rocky start to their campaign with a loss in their first game. However, it was his performance that stole the 'unwanted' spotlight, with netizens flooding social media with their harsh criticism of his 35 runs off 32 innings, questioning the missing flair and style of an international player.

The Dilli 6 openers, Arpit Rana and Manjeet, made a substantial impact on their team's score, laying the groundwork for an explosive start. Rana's impressive knock of 59 off 41 at a strike rate of 143.9, which included eight boundaries and two maximums, was a standout performance. Despite a brief outing, Manjeet's six and a four added 13 runs to the total, a contribution not to be overlooked.

But it was Rishabh Pant's 'slow innings' at a strike rate of 109.38 that left people questioning the missing flair and style of an international player.

Following his departure, his fellow teammate Lalit Yadav scored an unbeaten 34 runs off 21 balls at a strike rate of 161.90, and Vansh Bedi added 47 runs to the total off just 19 deliveries at an outstanding strike rate of 247.37.

Fans questioned Pan as social media quickly flooded with heavy criticism of the Indian player.
