India’s heavy defeat to Pakistan in the U19 Asia Cup 2025 final was followed by an unusual moment during the presentation ceremony in Dubai. The runners-up did not receive their medals from ACC and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Pakistan dominated the final from start to finish. Powered by Sameer Minhas’ sensational 172 off 113 balls, the men in green posted a massive total of 347 runs.

India’s chase never gained momentum, with the team collapsing early and eventually being bowled out for 156. It was India’s biggest defeat in U19 ODIs by runs and ended their hopes of winning a record-extending ninth Asia Cup title.

India U19 team ignore Mohsin Naqvi

As soon as Pakistan got into a winning position, ACC and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi flew to Dubai to hand over the trophy.

While Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister, was present at the venue and stood on the podium, he did not hand over the runners-up medals to the Indian players.

Instead, the medals were presented by Mubashshir Usmani, an ICC Associate Member Director.

Notably, the Indian players did not walk up to the stage where Naqvi was standing. They collected their medals on the ground, away from the podium.

This moment did not come in isolation. Earlier this year, during the senior men’s Asia Cup final in Dubai, the Indian team had refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi after defeating Pakistan.

The trophy was later seen being taken away by the ACC chairman. Since then, India have followed a strict no-handshake and limited-interaction policy with Pakistan teams in ACC events.

India-Pakistan relations are strained after the Pahalgam terror attack

The sporting and political relations between India and Pakistan exploded following the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 Indian tourists were killed, and India’s subsequent military response under Operation Sindoor.

Pakistan also responded before begging for a ceasefire. Since then, India have maintained a cold relationship with Pakistan.
