In the ongoing IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings at the Mullunpur stadium, Shreyas Iyer became a target of trolls after Yuzvendra Chahal wasn't handed the ball. Notably, PBKS, batting first put, 219 runs on the board.
In reply, CSK got off to a great start and despite losing two wickets in the middle-overs, the Men in Yellow got going. Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings fans were waiting for Yuzvendra Chahal to come to bowl and get the crucial breakthrough for Punjab. However, much to everyone's surprise, Shreyas Iyer didn't hand the ball to Chahal until the 17th over.
Why Didn't Shreyas Iyer Bring Chahal To Bowl Till 17th Over?
It is worth noting that CSK lost Ruturaj Gaikwad in the 8th over of the match. Since then, two lefties - Shivam Dube and Devon Conway were at the crease. However, the duo stitched a 89-runs stand for the 3rd wicket and Iyer avoided bringing in a spinner for Dube and Conway, who are great player of the spin.
Thus, Iyer's plan was to attack Dube and Conway with pacers and not bring any spinner. Further, another idea was to reserve Chahal for MS Dhoni. Notably, PBKS got rid of Dube in the 16th over of the match and brought Chahal into the attack right away.
As expected, Chahal troubled MSD in his first over and gave away just 9 runs in the crucial 17th over of the match. Talking about the ongoing match, CSK are 164/3 after 17.3 overs.
