The much-awaited second Test between India and Australia is underway at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. The visitors are leading 1-0 after a thumping win in Perth. The Oval is jam-packed as the fans are excited for the Pink Ball Test. The Rohit Sharma-led side won the toss and opted to bat first.

Meanwhile, the Australian players have taken the field with black armbands around their sleeve. This article will shed light on why the hosts are wearing black armbands in the ongoing 2nd Test vs India.

Australia Pay Tribute To Phillip Hughes

It is worth noting that Cricket Australia are paying a tribute to former opener Phillip Hughes to mark 10th anniversary of his tragic death, who passed away on November 27, 2014 in an unfortunate incident. CA had announced ahead of the start of the 2nd Test that they would be honouring Hughes' legacy.

Not just in the ongoing Test, but Cricket Australia are honouring Hughes' legacy in the Sheffield Shield Trophy as well. Flags will be flown at half-mast, and players will wear black armbands across all matches during the upcoming Sheffield Shield round.

What Happened To Phillips Hughes

During South Australia vs New South Wales match in a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 25 November 2014, Hughes was hit on the neck by a lethal short delivery, following which he collapsed on the ground.

On November 27, Cricket Australia announced the tragic passing away of Hughes because of brain trauma at the age of 25. Phillip Hughes played 26 Tests for Australia since making his debut against South Africa at Johannesburg in February 2009. Hughes also played 25 ODI matches between January 2013 and October 2014 and a lone T20I.
