'We Held Control of the Game But...,' MI Head Coach Mark Boucher Disappointed

After three back-to-back wins, Mumbai Indians came crashing down at the hands of Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 13 runs on Saturday.

Punjab Kings boasted a mammoth 214 on the board at Wankhede, courtesy of some sublime hitting by Sam Curran, Harpreet Singh Bhatia and Jitesh Sharma.

In reply, Mumbai Indians were in the hunt to chase down the total, but some brilliant death bowling by Arshdeep Singh derailed the chase as the five-time champions faltered in the end.

After the game, MI head coach Mark Boucher attended the post-match press conference and rued the missed chances by his team.

"We move on. The effort was high but the return wasn’t as expected. But like we always do, a loss is a learning curve to come back stronger in the next game."

Boucher stated that MI had the game in control but were close and yet so far in the fixture.

“I thought the game was in the balance. I thought we batted really well tonight. Maybe they did get too many runs which is disappointing. Because I think that, overall, if I look at the game, we had control for some percentage of the game, but let it slip towards the end of our bowling.”

The head coach also shared a word of wisdom on the return of Suryakumar Yadav back in form for their side.

"It's always nice for Suryakumar Yadav to get some runs. His form is a funny thing, as sometimes you judge it by the numbers. He's been hitting the ball really well in the nets and it was just a matter of time before he translated that into runs. So, I'm very happy for him."

After this loss, Mumbai Indians have 3 wins and 3 losses, and are at the 7th position in the points table, with 6 points.

Boucher also gave an insight into Jofra Archer's injury

"I thought Jof bowled us some good pace. He landed a couple of yorkers. The wicket was good to bat on and thus, we knew it was going to be a tough night for our bowlers. For that, I think for his first outing, we'll take it.

"Hopefully, he's not feeling any pain tomorrow and he can be up and running and put his name in the selection for the next game. It's always good to see Jof running in at full pace so we're grateful for that."
