In an electrifying showdown at the Wankhede Stadium, Punjab Kings (PBKS) triumphed over Mumbai Indians (MI) with a resounding 13-run victory in Match 31 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, played out on Saturday.

The enthralling clash catapulted Punjab Kings to the fifth spot on the IPL 2023 leaderboard, leaving Mumbai Indians floundering in seventh place.

Following the match, Rohit Sharma acknowledged his team's death bowling errors, but refrained from scrutinizing the fielding mistakes, which he claimed were part and parcel of the game.

“(On their death bowling) Yes, a little disappointment there, we made some errors in the field which can happen, not gonna look too much into that,”

Instead, he urged his team to remain composed and confident despite the current uneven record of three wins and three losses. He also lauded the gritty performance of Green and Yadav, who kept the team in contention until the end.

“Just keep our heads high, we have won three and lost three, pretty even-stevens at the moment. There is a lot of time left in the tournament. We can't look down and start worrying about things. Yes, we didn't come out on top today. (On Green and Sky) Quite happy with the way those two guys batted today and they kept us in the game till the end."

Finally, Rohit commended Arshdeep Singh's impressive display in the final overs of the game, which resulted in Punjab Kings clinching the win

Meanwhile, the outcome of the match was largely determined by Punjab Kings' dominant batting display, with captain, Sam Curran, blazing a trail of destruction with a lightning-fast 55 off 25 balls, while the supporting cast of Harpreet Singh Bhatia, Atharvq Taide, Prabhsimran Singh, and Jitesh Sharma all chipping in with crucial cameos.

The total amassed by Punjab Kings, an impressive 214/8, proved to be too steep a target for Mumbai Indians to chase down.

Mumbai Indians started off on the wrong foot, losing opener Ishan Kishan cheaply. Rohit, however, played a stellar knock of 44 off 27 balls, partnering with Cameron Green, who provided able support.

Suryakumar Yadav and Green continued the onslaught after the MI skipper's dismissal, with some explosive batting that kept the Punjab Kings bowlers at bay. Unfortunately, the dismissal of the two batsmen at crucial intervals resulted in Mumbai Indians being unable to maintain the momentum, eventually falling short of the target by 13 runs.
