In a stunning turnaround, the West Indies cricket team emerged victorious against Australia, clinching an eight-run win at the Gabba to draw the Test series 1-1.

Former Australian cricketer Rodney Hogg's scathing criticism of the West Indies as "pathetic and hopeless" became an unexpected source of motivation for the Caribbean side. In a post-match presentation, West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite, retaliating against Hogg's comments, expressed his team's determination to prove their mettle.

"I'm extremely proud. I must say we had two words that inspired us in this Test match.Mr. Rodney Hogg said that we were 'pathetic and hopeless'. That was our inspiration. We wanted to show the world we're not pathetic. And I must ask him, are these muscles big enough for him (shows his biceps)” Brathwaite declared, flexing his muscles metaphorically.

The Windies' victory was propelled by the outstanding performance of young pacer Shamar Joseph, who overcame an injured toe to bag seven crucial wickets. Despite a valiant effort from Steve Smith, the rest of the Australian batting lineup crumbled under Joseph's relentless bowling attack.

Captain Brathwaite, relishing the historic win, emphasized its significance for West Indies cricket.

"It's been a number of years since we've won a Test match here. This is the beginning," he asserted, warning his group not to get comfortable.

Shamar Joseph shines in the series, not only claiming the Player of the Match award but also earning the prestigious Player of the Series accolade. His remarkable feat, including a maiden fifer in the first Test in Adelaide, underscored the young fast bowler's potential.

As the Test series concludes, attention now turns to the upcoming One-Day Internationals (ODI) and T20 Internationals (T20I), set to commence on February 2. The West Indies, buoyed by their Test success, will aim to carry their momentum into the limited-overs formats.
