West Indies is facing New Zealand in the 26th match of the T20 World Cup 2024. This match is being played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.

In a must-win game for New Zealand, skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to field first. The bowlers have repaid the faith the skipper showed in them and have got West Indies reeling from the very beginning. The Kiwi bowlers gauged the conditions well and started hitting the right line and length from the very first ball.

Trent Boult started a parade of the West Indian batters, which was continued by Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson and Jimmy Neesham.

Powell fails to bail the team out of pressure

Rovman Powell, the skipper of the West Indian team, is one of the mainstays of their batting. They depend a lot on him to bail them out of tough situations.

Powell walked out to bat when the team's score was 21/3 in 4.3 overs. It was expected that Powell would dig his boots in the crease and bring the team out of the pressure.

However, Tim Southee had other plans. On the fourth delivery of the sixth over, Southee bowled a shortish delivery outside the off stump, which was moving into the batter. Powell rocked back into the crease and was trying to work the ball away to the third-man region. However, all he managed was a thick edge to be taken by Devon Conway behind the stumps. Powell's dismissal added to the miseries of the West Indian team.

The skipper failing to perform under pressure had a female West Indian fan frustrated in the stands. She was seen expressing his annoyance with the team's dismal batting display.
